After completing an honours degree at Glasgow University, David Drennan started off life as a teacher of French and German, a job he enjoyed enormously. From there he made a leap into industry as the Industrial Relations Officer in a car company - that was a real baptism of fire, but he learned a lot pretty quickly about life at work, and about human relations in particular.
His teaching instincts never left him, however, and combined with his degree in psychology, he found he could bring that experience to bear when he later joined a company of international management consultants. With his colleagues he soon learned that the need to produce tangible results for clients was of paramount importance. That was another useful focus of attention.
From that role he was invited to join the M & M Mars Group, a company he had much admired for their popular products, their strong marketing and their enlightened people management policies. After more than a decade with that great company, David was invited to become Special Professor of Management at Nottingham University. At that time, he also established his own consultancy company Good People Management International, and you can see from his long client list the number of companies he has been pleased to work with.
The subjects of David’s management articles cover a wide variety of areas, and many will appear on this website over the coming months. His books include Transforming Company Culture, The Ladders to World Class Performance, and Winning The Executive Job Race. His latest book is The Magic of the OK Box, which carries the subtitle ‘People Management Made Simple’.
